Al-Riyada College for health sciences (RCHS) was founded under the direction of his Highness late Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz, the covernor of Makkah Region. It was based on market requirements and to explore possible employment opportunities for saudi females to serve the community. The study carried out by the Social & Economic Circle shows that there is a huge shortage of qualified employees in the Healthcare sector in general, and in the Nursing profession in particular.

AL-RIYADA College for Health Sciences was founded to participate in bridging the gap and in covering the shortage of qualified Nurses in the Healthcare sector. The College established a collaboration agreement with Queen Margaret University in order to ensure the quality of the programmes and to demonstrate the international currency of the degrees awarded.
RCHS falls under the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education from which it receives a charter. In the initial stage of formation, it concentrates on female students and the nursing programme but it is hoped that other programmes will be stablished in the future. The applied programme leading to the degree of Bachelor of of Science (Honors) in Nursing (BSN) is in line with international standards and has been accredited by the Saudi Council of Health Specialties.

The college awards a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing by offering two educational streams in nursing education:

Stream I :
Candidates are High School of Science graduates; the programme is four years and involves the completion of 140 credit hours plus one year of internship.

Stream III :

Candidates hold a Diploma of Nursing and wish to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. This program is covered in at least four semesters, which involves the completion of a minimum of 53 credit hours.
